At a Glance: Wrapped around the Western and Southern shores of Lake Sunapee, the town of Newbury claims some of the area's most outstanding attractions and scenic beauty. Population: 1,701.
Originally settled in the mid-1700's, Newbury was incorporated in 1778. The growth of the town has been closely linked to Lake Sunapee and the imposing Mount Sunapee range.
Overview: Newbury is home to Mount Sunapee Resort and State Park, the Sunapee State Beach (the only state beach on Lake Sunapee), and The Fells/Hay Estate.
Newbury Harbor has a private town beach, a picnic area and waterfront gazebo as well as a public pier.
Mount Sunapee Resort offers great alpine skiing and riding, and hosts the Annual Craftsmen's Fair.
Spread along three miles of frontage on the Western shore of Lake Sunapee, the Fells/Hay Estate is famous for its superb gardens, woodland hiking trails and beautiful vistas from the old homestead.
